Stand behind the tester, peek over bottom oftester to see cleanout plate. Remove the 1/4 turnfasteners holding the cleanout plate in position.Remove the plate and the captive shutter. The shutterand cleanout plate are an integral assembly. Do nottouch the brass ring around the hole in the plate. Cleanthe shutter and the plate thoroughly, and clean out theshutter chamber with a brush (standing behind the testerwhile this is done). It is not necessary to extend thesource to clean the end of the rod! Leave it alone!Spray the shutter, cleanout plate, and the interior of thechamber with molybdenum-disulphide lubricant(Appendix E, Item 2). This lubricant should then beallowed to dry for a period of four hours or more to cureto the metal. This will provide a long life lubrication of theshutter formaximum utility between cleanings.NOTEDo not force the source rod handle whenthe shutter is dirty.CPN does not recommend the use of oil or grease forlubrication, however, several customers have reportedgood performance by spraying WD-40 (Appendix E, Item3) into the shutter chamber without disassembling it. Theuse of WD-40 will not injure the tester or affect testresults. If it works for you, use it.3-7. SHIPPING CASE MAINTENANCEThe shipping case is a fiberglass case built to MIL Specstandards. It is very strong and will produce excellentservice.No special care is required on the case other than anoccasional cleaning (both inside and out) with soap andwater.3-8. TESTER EXTERIOR MAINTENANCEWash the tester with soap and water if it becomesunusually dirty.WARNINGDrycleaning solent PD-680 is toxic and flammable.Wear protective goggles and gloves and use only in awell ventilated area. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, andclothes, and don’t breathe vapors Do not use near openflame or excessive heat. The flash point for Type #1Drycleaning Solvent is 1000F (380C) and for Type #2 is1380F (500C) If you become dizzy while using cleaningsolvent, get fresh air immediately and get medical aid Ifcontact with eyes is made, flush your eyes with waterand get medical aid immediately.Remove asphalt with PD-680.Do not scratch display window with abrasive cleaners.3-3
