TM 5-6635-386-12&PSECTION IIIOPERATOR MAINTENANCE PROCEDURESWARNINGDo not attempt tester repairs. A faulty tester must bereturned to a designated manufacturer’s repair facility.NOTE• This section applies to basic maintenance to beperformed by the field operator with a minimumof tools and equipment and with a minimumelectronics knowledge.• Maintenance covered by Section III involves onlythe use of common hand tools.•Report any defects with the tester to the LRPO.3-1. GENERALThe tester requires little maintenance other than anoccasional cleaning of the shutter and replacement ofbatteries.a. Service problems will occur In three areas:(1) Batteries.(2) Mechanical jamming of shutter needscleaning.(3) Electronic parts failure.b. CPN testers minimize service problems inthese three areas by careful design: (1) Batteries arereplaceable with NICAD batteries, NSN 6140-00-497-0490.(2) The shutter mechanism uses a quick releasecleanout plate for ease of cleaning.(3) Electronics use CMOS circuits for long lifeand low current drain.3-2. BATTERIESThe tester uses NICAD rechargeable 4 Ampere Hour DSize cells as standard batteries.CAUTIONDue to excessive damage caused bybattery leakage, only NICAD batteries,NSN 6140-00-497-0490, will be used asreplacement. Quantity of eight (8) eachshould be ordered.3-3. CHARGING (Fig. 3-1.)Charge NICAD batteries only. Do not use alkaline orzinc-carbon cells!Figure 3-1. Charging3-1
