Ensure thatan ALRPO has been appointed, and that unit personnelcomply with radiation standards.j. Notify the UC and Commander, TACOM,ATTN: AMSTA-CZ of any radiation safety defects orhazards associated with the tester, and with any otheractions or circumstances that do not comply with Title 10CFR Part 21.k. Ensure that records are maintained for eachtester in accordance with AR 385-11.I. Ensure that all radiation survey instrumentsused for monitoring the tester are calibrated inaccordance with TB 43-180.m. Be knowledgeable of the subject matter inthis manual.4-11. ALTERNATE LOCAL RADIATIONPROTECTION OFFICER (ALRPO).The ALRPO shallassist the LRPO as required.4-12. OPERATOR. Areas of responsibility are:a. Upon initial assignment, all operators shall bechecked out by the LRPO to ensure that they can safelyand correctly handle and operate the tester. Testeroperators shall have attended and successfullycompleted a course on the care, maintenance, andoperation of the tester. Training courses shall Includeone of the following:(1) Material Quality Specialist Course, (51G), Ft.Leonardwood, MO School. By agreement with theschool, it is possible to attend the three-day portion of thecourse that is related to operating the tester.(2) Tester Training Course. The course is taughtby an instructor who has been certified by the NewEquipment Training School, TACOM MaintenanceDirectorate or by the Ft. Leonardwood, MO trainingschool. The instructor must also be approved of, by theTACOM SafetyOffice (AMSTA-CZ).b. Maintain the tester user’s log. A copy of DAForm 5449 can be found at the back of this manual.c. The tester is under the control of the operatorat the job site. The operator shall not leave the job siteuntil the tester is secured and locked in its storage case.The operator shall then ensure that the tester is returnedto its proper storage area.d. Secure the tester when it is not in use. Ensurethat the tester is not used when there is noLRPO/ALRPO assigned to the unit.e. Be knowledgeable of the subject matter in thismanual. Supplemental operating, maintenance, andrepair parts instructions are included in Section V of thismanual.f. Notify the LRPO of any radiation safety defectsor hazards that are associated with the tester.g. Wear a beta-gamma type film badge or TLDbadge when operating the tester, when in the storagearea for the tester, and at other times as directed by theLRPO.4-13. TESTER DISPOSAL.Notify the NICP itemmanager and the RMCP when testers are unserviceable,or are in excess of the amount required by the unit.WARNINGUnder no circumstances shall thetesters be conveyed to a propertydisposal officer. All Disposal actionsshall be conducted in accordance withAR 385-11.PERSONNEL DOSIMETRY4-14. RADIACMETERS.All personnel who enterradioactive storage areas or operate the tester areauthorized to wear IM-9E/PD Radiacmeters, NSN 6665-00-243-8199, if required by the LRPO.4-15.
