The classification code for an explosiveconsists of the class number followed by the compatibility group letter. Compatibility group letters are used tospecify the controls required for transportation and storage and to prevent the additional hazard that might occur ifcertain types of explosives are transported or stored together. All explosives entering the Defense TransportationSystem must be assigned a final or interim hazard classification according to A3.3.1.2. Compatibility groups andclassification codes for the various types of explosive substances and articles are identified in tables A18.3.
